Employment, Executive Compensation, Labour Relations and Privacy

My focus is Employment and Labour Relations law. I provide representation and advice on the tough legal issues and challenges facing employers. From hiring to dismissal, collective bargaining to lawsuits, I provide legal counsel and representation to employers of all sizes and scope. My clients operate throughout the spectrum of our dynamic western Canadian economy and include: oil and gas companies, power providers, technology businesses, manufacturers, financial institutions, government departments and NPOs. I represent clients before arbitration boards and tribunals such as the Labour Relations Boards of Alberta, British Columbia and Canada. I also appear before the Alberta and BC Superior Courts and Courts of Appeal, as well as the Federal Court of Canada.

I enjoy writing and teaching, and have written several books on labour and employment law and litigation. I often teach and speak at conferences and seminars. I have taught at the University of Calgary, and through the Legal Education Society of Alberta and British Columbia Continuing Legal Education.  I am also the author of the book, “Strategies for Litigators in Alberta”, which was published in March 2012.

In recent years, I have been a director of the Human Resources Association of Calgary, a member of the Mount Royal College (now University) Human Resources Advisory Committee, and the President of the Sea Sprites Synchronized Swim Team.  I am also a past  member of the National Executive of the Canadian Bar Association Labour and Employment Section.

I have practiced Employment and Labour law since 1994 and have had the honour of being associated with four nationally acclaimed firms in Alberta and British Columbia. Before we created Spectrum HR Law, I was the head of the labour and employment department of a leading national law firm.
