I practice employment and labour relations law, with an emphasis on occupational health and safety, and privacy. I provide advice and representation on matters involving occupational health and safety compliance from policies to defence of claims; alcohol and drug policies and administration; employee trust thefts; privacy compliance from policies to defence of claims; the creation and management of employment policies; wrongful termination; disability and accommodation; human rights and discrimination claims; pension litigation; and unionized workforce issues including defence of labour relations grievances.
I practiced in these areas of law in both private practice for a leading national law firm and in house with one of Canada's largest oil and gas companies. As a result of my experience in representing both employees and employers in all areas of employment and labour law, I have developed an enhanced skill set for preventing and responding to claims against companies and management. During my more recent practice history as in house legal counsel, I provided legal representation exclusively from the employer’s perspective.
I enjoy teaching, writing and presenting on all aspects of employment and labour law. I have been a guest lecturer on various occasions for the employment and labour law class at the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. I have also presented on employment standards for the Lorman Seminar on several occasions, as well as at privately held seminars on employment and occupational health and safety matters.
I currently sit on the Canadian Bar Association Labour and Employment (Alberta Branch) executive committee. I am also a member of the Canadian Bar Association (Alberta Branch) Privacy Section. I was called to the Alberta Bar in 2004.
