I assist clients in the areas of pensions, employment benefits, and executive and other deferred compensation plans. As part of Spectrum's integrated approach to HR Law, I assist colleagues with pension & benefits issues that arise in the areas of labour and employment law.
I also practice in the area of pension division on marital breakdown in British Columbia, providing advice to pension plan administrators and family lawyers on pension division matters. Legal services in this area include navigating provincial and federal pension legislation, consulting on pension division issues, and drafting pension-related provisions of separation agreements.
In addition to my work with Spectrum clients, I am active in the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch Pensions Law and Family Law sections, and speak and write on pension and pension division issues.
Prior to practicing law, I spent a number of years involved in collective bargaining and pension and benefits negotiations between faculty members and management at a top-tier university in Ontario. I pursued my interest in negotiations during law school, working as a Pension and Benefits Advisor with a benefits consulting firm in Toronto, and spent a summer at a leading Toronto law firm in the areas of pension law, labour and employment, and civil litigation.
