| Use Common Sense To Avoid Employment Law Problems The law is intended to be the formal reflection of the values and expectations of our society. This means that legal rights and obligations mirror our collective expectations as to how people act and how people are treated. One result of this connection between the law and our personal beliefs is that "doing the right thing" legally is also often the same as "doing the right thing" morally, ethically, and practically. |

Western Canada boutique labour law firm promises'new business model' Western Canada has a new boutique law firm, Spectrum HR Law, which comprises eight lawyers, most of whom previously worked at large law firms. It will have offices in both Calgary and Vancouver and promises a "new business model that is a fundamental shift from the traditional law firm," said managing partner Chris Brown, a former partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. Other partners come from Fraser Milner Casgrain and Blakes, Cassels & Graydon. "Our vision is to create seamless, integrated solutions to employers' and other organizations' HR legal challenges that will help them to best manage their legal costs, while accessing strategic, practical advice," he said. "In today's business environment, companies are looking for new ways to streamline processes, reduce costs and deliver results, and corporate legal departments are being asked to do more with less." |
